Theif Caught!

The island’s just too small for a thief to get away.

I woke up this morning to the sound of a text message on my phone. It was from my new friend at the police station. It simply said:
“Robber caught ha ha ha!”
At first, I thought he was joking.

We’ve seen each other quite a bit and built a pretty good relationship—he’s had dinner at our house a few times, we’ve hung out, and chatted here and there. Just last night, around 11:00 p.m., I passed him as he was starting his shift. I told him to make sure he circled our house a few times and not to fall asleep on duty. Little did I know that he’d end up being the officer who actually caught and arrested the thief.

I won’t go into all the details of how they tracked him down, but they showed me a video so I could recognize his face. They recovered the stolen Gameboy—ironically, just one day after a friend emailed to say she had sent a replacement package via DHL. Unfortunately, the rest of the stolen items (including the iPod and money) had already been sold. The money’s gone.

We did have a new friend come by the house today. I wish I could share all the details, but for now, I’ll leave it at that.

On a lighter note, I pulled out my hair clippers today to give myself a trim—and of course, they didn’t work. So, I guess tomorrow I’ll venture out to get a local haircut. That should be an experience. Here’s hoping I don’t end up with an Enzo from that infamous Seinfeld episode.

While we were cleaning up the dinner dishes—a family affair these days—Angie found the old Walmart bag that used to hold my clippers. We had a moment of silence. She almost cried. Then we used the bag for trash.

Sorry this post is short. We spent most of the day sweating, and with an ungrounded 220-volt apartment, we were genuinely worried that a drip of sweat on the laptop might electrocute us.

That’s all for today. Can you tell we’re back to normal?
