A Day in the Life of Braden

I usually wake up about 8:00 every morning. I head into the living room with my Gameboy. After a few games, I realize I’m all sweaty, so I start opening windows. Mom is usually the second one awake. We’ve been sleeping late since we’re still on summer break. If I get hungry before she gets up, I fix my own toast in our toaster oven. The she scrambles eggs to go with it. After breakfast, Kyndal and I start to watch a movie. By this time, it is already very hot. One day, Kyndal, Mom & I went swimming in the morning, but we all got sunburned on little parts where we didn’t get the sunscreen on. Some time before lunch, I hear my name being called from the street below. It is my friend Hussein (or his brother, Mahi). They are our neighbors next door. They like to play on my Gameboy with me, or we play soccer (they call it football) on the street in front of our apartments. Also, Mom usually lets me go to the store on the corner with money for drinks or snacks. After lunch, I do lots of different things. Our neighbor upstairs lets me borrow his bicycle and I can almost ride around the whole island. Sometimes Hussein and I go out to the beach and catch crabs and just explore. Usually around 4 or 5 pm, we get to swim for awhile. When I come in, Mom always makes me go straight to the shower to wash off the salt and sand. Then we eat dinner. To end my day, I play cars or watch TV for awhile. Mom still reads books to us before bed. Right now she’s reading Treasure Seekers. It’s about some British kids who hunt for treasure. When I go to sleep at night, I always thank God that I’m here and ask Him to make me the person He wants me to be.
