New Hospital
It was sleepless night for me. I dozed off for about 20-30 minutes at a time. I felt ok, it was just that I kept worrying about her. i wanted to call her so many times, but I knew she would be resting. Kyndal slept soundly next to me and we moved a mattress into our room for Brado to sleep on. I took Ang some toast and jelly this morning along with some juice and water. We waited for the dengue test this morning. After I went to visit with the Dr. about her diagnosis of dengue, she asked me what she wanted me to do. It didnt take long for me to say, “Get her to somebody who know what to do!” Don’t worry I was very diplomatic and kind. I had her write a letter to recommend the care of a specialist on the main island. We moved Angie to a private hospital. Everyone I talked to told me to move her to the private hospital on the main island. My friend from the police station (if you dont know how I met him read “Really, Really Tough Day Post) saw me and needed a number from my cell phone that was stolen. I told him about my wife and he and all the police on the island bent over backwards for us. He arranged for a speed boat (the police speed boat) at no charge to us. You can imagine, Braden was in heaven. The only police car came to our house to pick us up to take us to the speed boat. We had to check Ang out of the one hospital and could not get the speed boat for a couple hours later. The sea was very rough and we chose to not take the water taxi because it takes about 30 minutes and we were not sure Ang could handle that. The police man was holding Kyndal on the dock and then tossed her to me in the boat. It was great. She was a little freaked out because the boat was jumping all around, but we had it undercontrol. The normal 30 minute ride was only 5 minutes long. We then sat in the police station on the main island while they called us a taxi. Because it was raining, all the taxis were too busy, so they took us again in a police van to the hospital. I really think this was Braden’s favorite day. I will definitely write a letter to the chief of police and tell him what honorable and kind men he has working for him. I was very impressed. Ok, ok… I am getting to the part about Angie. Her fever got as high at 104 last night. They did a dengue test and determined that she does have dengue fever. Her platelet count is very low. It was 68,000 yesterday and 32,000 today. We have checked into the private hospital, the cost is considerably more, but still not as much as the states. The attending physician had dengue just 2 weeks ago. He spoke very good english and studied in India, Kuwait, and Russia. We feel very confident in his leadership. We also talked to the PCP for our insurance and he told us a little about dengue and the dangers of the platelet count and what the physicians here should do about it.Angie has not had the high fever again since last night. She is acting like she feels much better today. I wish I could tell you more, but we just have to wait and continue praying. I really believe all of your prayers were heard during your day (and while we should have been sleeping) and she is getting much better because of the great physicians touch. The kids and I will be staying in a hotel on the main island. We will all have AC and warm water tonight. Yipee! I really believe Angie is over the worst part and now we just wait for her to get her strength back. Dont stop thinking about us and I will update as often as I can.
