Platelets are on the rise….

The nights stay in the hospital was a little different than we are used to. About 10pm, the nurse came in and showed me how to lock the door. They said if we didnt, then thieves would come during the night. So I was thinking, ‘How are the nurses going to come in and check on her during the night?’ ‘How are they going to know when her IV runs out?’ Then I realized, that is my job. So I set my alarm for an hour and half (my best guess at when the IV would run out) and woke up to check her IV. It was a pretty good guess. We called the nurse, unlocked the door and the nurse came to take the vitals, change the IV, etc. We did this a couple of times through the night. I finally got some good sleep about 4:30am. I knew the nurse was coming at 6:00am to draw blood for the platelet test and I didnt have to worry about sleeping through my alarm. It was so hard to wake up at 6:00am, but I managed. The results from the platelet count came back very good. I had been asking God to double her platelet count by morning. The report came back at 90,000. She was a 50,000 the night before. They had been pushing the liquids pretty hard, but it seems to be working. They are also giving her a steroid to help boost the platelets. She is looking so much better today. She looks like she feels good, she even got up and got dressed. We ate breakfast and waited for the kids to come to the hospital. We visited with our friends all morning and then went to lunch. Angie stayed at the hospital (obviously) and ordered some food from the ‘food corner.’ After lunch, I took the kids back out to our island to get more clothes and the phone chargers. It was kind of funny though, because once we got to our flat (about a 45 min journey), I realized my friend that had been staying with the kids had our key. We had to wait for the next water taxi and my friend put the key on the taxi to give to me. We walked back to the taxi (about 15 min) and then back to the flat. Lots of walking and sweating today. The sun shined all day and it was hot and humid. I think sweat off about 20 pounds today. On a side note, I stepped on the scales at the hospital and noticed that I now weigh 78 KG. When I left the states I weighed about 190 pounds. So if my calculations are right, I now weigh about 173 pounds. Ok, enough about me again.I was able to check my email and let me say thank you so much for all your comments and care. It means so much to us.Our friends are staying with our kids again tonight. They are really kind and my kids love them. I am praying for 125,000 in the morning. I’ll keep you posted. At best, Angie wont get out until Sunday. It will take some time to decrease the steroids and hope the platelets dont crash again. I really think we are on the other side of this thing, but dont stop thinking and praying for us. I know it is the prayers of our friends that is getting us through this.
