Happy Days Are Here Again…
I think word is getting out that our new business here is to bring Americans over as tourists. I am beginning to think this because of all the people that are meeting me. I am my usual self (never met a stranger) and try to meet and remember the people that sit next to me on the water taxi, people I meet on the beach or the street. Well yesterday, as our family was exiting the water taxi from the main island, a man offered to help with a box we had. I was really shocked. He asked me my name and my work. It turns out that the guy works on a safari boat that is at dock right now. He introduced me to the boat owner. We traded numbers and said we would be in contact with each other. Just after lunch today, he called me and invited us out to the safari boat to take a look. The boat is brand new, 4 floors (I think) and its name is Happy Days. Braden and I rode “Happy Days Junior” from the dock out to the big boat this evening to take a look. I didn’t know, but he was expecting the whole family. He had juice sitting out in 4 glasses when Brado and I climbed aboard. I apologized for the miscommunication and he quickly invited all four of us for a day run to another island. He told us that he would take us to a great place to snorkel and swimming. Happy Days are here again. Braden told me that I had the best job in the world and I agreed. So tomorrow we are to meet him on the dock at 10am for a great day. He told me, “How can you personally tell Americans about our service unless you experience it?” “How can you tell them about the best chef on all the safari boats unless you taste his food?” I simply agreed and said we would be around for lunch tomorrow. I promise to take my camera and post some pictures after we get back. While we were standing on the top deck of the boat, he began telling me all about diving and what all the tourists would see on a dive. I told him that I did not dive. He seemed shocked. Again he said, “How can you tell the Americans about the dive if you do not dive?” I told him that I was relying on the dive director to tell me about it. He said this was not good enough and that I needed to learn to dive. He told me that he is certifying his entire crew (cooks, captain, etc) beginning on the 30th of this month. He has an instructor coming to his safari boat and invited me to be part of his training at no cost. He said after 5 days, I could get my certification card in the mail and then he would take me out on a dive. Isn’t it great when your work is fun? I love all my work 😉
