Communication

So Kyndal was recruited to play carrom. We reluctantly took her to the main island every day last week to practice. It is such a pain in the rump to take the boat ride over right during dinner time, but we were tying to play along and thought we could manage for a week or so.

So Thursday afternoon, Kyndal comes home and tells us she has carrom practice on Friday morning. That would be like having practice on Sunday morning in the States. Kind of sacred time for families and for religious reasons. Friday is the holy day here as it is an Islamic nation. We were shocked but we let her go. When I picked her up, the teacher told me there was a tournament that day on the main island and she needed to be on the 1:30pm boat. What??? I am really starting to hate carrom. Ugh… it is eating up all our time. We have a bad habit of trying to plan ahead… something that is not real common here in the islands. So we bit our tongue and took her to the tournament. Angie and I dropped her off and did some other tasks while Kyndal planned to thumped tiny little disks into small holes. Kyndal called us after 2 hours and said she still had not played and that her tournament was on Thursday. She wasn't going to play at all. Ughh… I was so frustrated. Last minute communication is hard enough, but when the information that is communicated at the last minute is wrong… its ridiculous.

I decided when I picked her up that her carrom days are over. Kyndal was a bit frustrated too, but still wanted to give it a try. So she went to school yesterday (Sunday) and came home announcing that there was another carrom tournament TODAY (Sunday) at 5:30pm on the main island. I got a phone call at 3:30pm from the school office saying the same thing. When we signed her up for this, we had know idea that they didn't play or practice on our island. Nor did we know that tournaments would be popping up at all different times and at different locations.

I didnt let her go. Kyndal was fine with it. I guess I am a little bit spoiled to having the kids home when we home-schooled them and now I dont want to spend my time rushing around with them at the last minute chasing meaningless events.

Long story short, no more carrom team.
