Crumpy Butter
Have you ever heard of Crumpy. No its not how my sister is early in the mornings, that’s grumpy. Crumpy is a mixture of hazelnut and chocolate. It comes in a jar and it is very popular here in the islands. I’m not sure you can get it in the States as I have never seen it there. However, I never knew to look either. Any-who, we bought some crumpy and decided to put it on some biscuits. Now when I say biscuits dont be getting the wrong idea of what I mean. In the USA we would call these cookies, but in these here parts we call em biscuits. So we take the crumpy, spread it on a biscuit and eat it. Well the other day after my tuna sandwich for lunch, I decided I would cap off the lunch with some crumpy and biscuits. As I went to the cabinet to get the crumpy, I saw peanut butter right beside it. Immediately I remembered that everything is better with peanut butter. So I took the crumpy and wiped all the ants off of the jar (ants are a pretty common thing around here) and decided to put an even amount of crumpy and peanut butter on the biscuit. Can I just say, YUM YUM! I was right, everything is better with peanut butter on it. I’m not real sure why I am writing about this as there are many more things to write about. I guess I was just hungry as I was writing this (11:42 PM) and thought about it.
So more things to write about….
David is here and we are having a blast. Its like walking through our first days all over again. Getting things setup like apartment contracts, telephone, internet, its all still the same. Most people dont understand what we really want and we have service calls at 10:30 PM (which is why I am up writing this now.) The second part of David’s desk for the office was delivered tonight. They forgot to load all of the order 2 days ago when the first boat came from the main island. So all is good and David is adjusting well. He is like part of our family. Its good to have him around.
I have to tell you this funny story. The other night our friends invited us to their house for breakfast. Now when I write breakfast here, what I really mean is breaking fast. You know this is Ramadan month and breakfast is at 6:30 PM not AM. Anyway, Nasha made some great food for us and we went over to eat it. As we were leaving Arey tells me he needs to talk to me later and to give him a call when I am free. He was heading out for police duty. So later I give him a call and he says, “Can you come to the station, there is a group of us that want to talk to you?” Well to be honest it kind of freaked me out. Why does a group of policemen want to talk to me? So a little bit nervous I go to the station and find out that Shift-A wants my company to sponsor their shift in the police volleyball tournament and the entire shift wanted to ask me, not just Arey. I thought it was so cool. I said, “Sure, but you gotta let me know that I’m not in trouble when you call me to the station like this. I was a little nervous… I thought you guys were going to tell me you saw me drive my cycle on the wrong side of the road or something.” They all laughed. So I sponsored the team and have gone to two of the volleyball matches… both of which Shift-A have won. The first night I was elected to give the certificate to the “best player.” Tonight was the second game and David was asked to give the certificate. We had to hurry home for Angie’s weekly English lesson with Wafia at 9:00PM.
Oh, I have another volleyball story…. When the game was over the other night and they wanted me to give the certificate, I didn’t really know what they wanted. Arey was not there as he was taking Nasha to the doctor in Male (pink eye). So after the match, the guy says something to me in the local language and all I got was that he wanted me to hang around for some kind of presentation. I didn’t know if he was presenting something to me or what. So he says a few more things in the local language, the guys cheer and a man steps forward to take the certificate from me. It was at this time I knew the certificate was not for me, but I was supposed to hand it over. A guy took our picture and I just smiled. Later that night Arey sends me a sms and says, “Hey I heard you got to give the certificate to the best player.” I said, “Oh is that what I did? I didn’t know. I just smiled for the camera. Ha ha. Oh the joys of being a minority.
Today was the first day of school. This in itself is a trick as we dont have all the school books yet. We have placed an order for additional books and hopefully they will arrive for our tourists from Oklahoma to bring with them this weekend. Insha’Allah! I asked Kyndal tonight as she went to bed what she learned today, and she could barely remember all the subjects of school… typical first day of a second grader. Braden easily remember all of his subjects and seemed pretty excited about it. They both had friends over after school today. Saniyya came to see Kyndal and Sujuan came to see Braden.
One last thought and I will end this marathon post. Please remember our friend Trishita. This is Pintu’s daughter. Trishita is in the hospital with a viral fever. They have ruled out dengue, but dont know what it is yet. We are doing our best to show love to their family. Join us in this effort by remembering them in your prayers.
Good night!
