Fishin’ Trip
The other day a buddy of mine called me and said that a friend of his had seen some of the pictures I took of the locals were really good. So this friend asked if I would come on a fishing trip with him and take some pictures of some guys catching fish to be used in his brochure. So again thanks a million for the camera Larry! I cant tell you home much it means to me. Anyway, we had a great time on the the boat. The boat was a bit small, but had all the amenities of a sport fishing boat. The crew and captain were very good and knowledgeable about fishing. We started out by pulling a couple of lines behind the boat to catch some live bait. It wasn’t long before we had several good size tuna to put on the end of the line. It was really cool. The guide took a small wire and poked it through one of eyes of the tuna and out the other. He then tied a big hook onto the wire and tossed it into the water. We continued pulling the lines behind the boat. On one line, we continued to fish for bait and the other for the “big one.” Well it wasn’t long after that, that the guide helped set the hook for Joel. Joel began pulling in about a 3.5 ft Mahi Mahi. I snapped a few pics of the fish and Joel. You can see the pics from the day here.
A couple of the other guys got to pull in a few tuna, but Eric and Joel were the only ones to catch the big fish. While we were out, we saw a very large sea turtle and Marlin. Unfortunately, our live bait was not so live when we saw the Marlin and we were in the process of trying to get more. We finally caught more tuna, but the big fishin’ was done. I hope I get the chance to go back again. They guys kept encouraging me to reel in a line, but I told them I felt more comfortable holding the camera.
On Saturday, our family is going to join another family (now staying at a resort) on a one day adventure tour. We have rented a boat and will head to an island north of us. Should be a great time of fellowship and seeing some old friends on Kaashidhoo. Ha, good luck on saying that. It’s really not that hard, give it a try.
On Monday, I will leave with a guy to go on a fishing adventure tour. We will fish the local way and will probably catch a lot more than we did on the fancy sport fishing boat. I will take my camera so you can feel like you were part of the trip… dont worry. I might set it down for a few minutes to feel what it is like to pull in a 7ft Marlin on a hand line. Oh, what fun.
We had a party tonight for my policeman friend. He was promoted a couple of days ago. We decorated our terrace with balloons and streamers. I ordered some fried rice from one of the shops (tasted like PF Changs) just joking, but not really…. OK I am…. It tasted nothing like that. As matter of fact, I couldn’t really taste the rice as my taste buds were burnt off from the chilies. I felt like George Costanza when he ate the Kung Pow. I called my friend to my house and asked him to come to the terrace. Several of his police man friends were there to congratulate him. We had cake and coffee to wash down the chilies. After all the guys left, we went in the house and Arey (thats my police friend) and his fiance watch Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. “I’m telling you, that Johny Depp, he maka me cry.“ (Another Seinfeld reference.) All in all it was a really good time with lots of new faces at our house.
I forgot to blog about our Happy Easter Egg Hunt on the beach. I’ve got some pictures to post a little later. I also forgot to post about my migraine headaches I’ve been having. Unfortunately I dont have any pictures to show you, but fortunately there is a miracle pill over here that knocks the headache out in about 4 or 5 hours. It knocks me out too. Most of my migraines are in the evening, so being knocked out sleeping isn’t so bad. I guess the good thing is that the headache warns me its coming by causing me to not be able to see and feeling dizzy. I think the headaches are coming from the UV light. I need to wear my sunglasses everyday, but that would mean wearing my contacts everyday. Contacts and sand just dont mix so well, but we manage.
Oh, one last thing. I played American Football with Braden and some of his buddies today on the beach. It is so much fun. Several of the kids come around to play. Right now we are just playing catch. It’s fun to teach these guys how to hold and throw the ball. At the end of our time of playing, I offer a 100 Ruff throw. Ruff is short for Rufiya which is our currency. A 100 ruff equates to about $9. Well lets just say I’ll keep offering the 100 Ruff throw until I lose my 100 ruff. Basically I make the guys get about 40-45 yards away and I throw the ball about as high as I can. Whoever catches it… yeah you guessed it…. gets a 100 Ruff. Well, like I said, I’ve still got my 100 Ruff, but that doesn’t mean these guys dont try. It’s a lot of fun and one day, I really hope Aleef catches it. So far he is the closest. Maybe someday Angie will grab the camera and take our picture playing ball on the beach. Its so much fun. If anybody sees Wendel in Big Lake, tell him I said thank you for the footballs. They sure are a lot of fun!
