Football
Yesterday was a really fun day. It started early as we got up to watch the TT vs TX game on slingbox. Slingbox is a really cool box that sits at my brother-in-law's house and is connected to his digital cable and internet. I can connect to the slingbox and watch TV through my internet connection. It was really a family event. Angie got up to fix Braden and I pancakes but Kyndal pretty much slept through the whole thing.
Unfortunately, TT lost the game but the day was not ruined. Ramadan fasting was over and so lots of local guys were eager to head to the beach to play outside. A 3-day holiday had begun and the islands were hopping. We taught 10 new locals how to play American football and we played for a couple hours on the beach. It was so hot but lots of fun. Every time I do something like this, I think, “Man, I am not as young as I used to be.” Today I am so sore from running, falling, diving, and my feet are cut up from running barefoot on the beach. It was still worth it.
It is nice to have the island back to normal. Well, its really not normal yet because nobody is back to work yet, but at least the streets are crawling with people and we can eat and drink in public again. There is a whole new energy. It seems like everybody is nicer this week. Maybe that's what the sermons in the Mosque were all about. “You people play nice!” Whatever the message coming from the mosque, I cant understand it but I can sure here it loud and clear. Seems like some kids got in and messed with the volume knob on the loud speaker or they got a new leader with a louder voice… it's definitely louder than before…. I just wish I could understand it. I'll just have to keep playing American football with the local kids on the beach and keep learning the language.
