Kindy’s B-Day
Happy Birthday Kyndal. Kyndal’s birthday was April 2, but this blog records the activities of the day.
The party planning began several weeks ago. Our good friends Arujun and Nasra thought it would be a good idea to throw Kyndal a surprise party on the terrace above our house. They really wanted her to experience a “local & traditional” party. I am sure you are aware that it is difficult to surprise your daughter on her birthday when the kids begin talking about their party about 3 or 4 months ahead of time. We finally had to tell here that we had planned a party, but we were not going to tell her the time or date so we could surprise her. That seemed to satisfy her. Our friends ordered the cake, took a dress of Kyndal’s and made a dress for her, ordered the food, made the decorations and invited the guests. Invitations were given to a local teacher and several students Kyndal’s age were invited to the party.
Kyndal wanted a bicycle for her birthday so I went shopping on April 1 and brought the bike home. The bike was in the living room when she awoke on her birthday. It was a lot of fun. We opened some other presents including her very own snorkel gear and some shopping money from her brother. Since the surprise party was to take place on top of our house, we had to get Kyndal away for the day. So after a quick morning bike ride, we took a couple of boat rides to the airport island and went swimming at the airport hotel. Take a look at our newest photo album to see the pictures of the day.
The surprise party was a lot of fun and Kyndal was surprised. We had some friends from Australia and Canada join us as well. The balloons were a big hit, but they were inflated indoors, so when they were taken to the roof, the heat caused them to burst. It was like fireworks going off. It quickly turned dark and after a round of musical chairs, it was time to cut the cake. We circled around to the block the wind from the candles, but nothing could stop the little kids from blowing out the candles as they were being lit. Kyndal seemed to be a good sport about it and only called out once, “Hey, I’m supposed to do that!” All-in-all we agreed with Arujun and Nasra that the party was a success.
April Fools Day—-> Since I didn’t post details of our April fools day, let me tell you what Angie and I pulled on the kids. We woke Kyndal first and told her that it had snowed here and there were kids out playing in the snow for the first time. She jumped up with a sleepy and excited face and said, “Really!” She moved towards her window and we grabbed her and said, “Wait, go tell your brother.” Well she did. We went to Braden’s bed and woke him with the same story. Braden ran to the living room window but Kyndal couldn’t wait any longer and stopped at Braden’s window. Kyndal said, “It didn’t snow back here, I guess only in the front.” A few seconds later our kids sat on the couch with it 90 degrees outside with their parents laughing and singing “April Fools Day!”
