New Office

Again, let me apologies for the lack of updates. I have shifted to a new office location. My last office location had a great view but it sat on the top of a building and had no shade from the sun. Since we live on the equator, this presents a problem. I put an AC unit in the office, but the sun just laughed at it. Also, one side of my office was all glass, which made for a great view, but did little for the coolness during the day. O-yeah, I think I told you that my office leaked. Well, all this led me to look for a new location. My friend had a spot in a commercial building and offered it to me at a very reasonable rate (cheaper than what I was paying for the old office.) Anyway, they had to do some construction to the office unit, but I am now in it. However, my internet connection is still at the old office. I have to wait for them to move it to the new place. So, can this do for a good excuse on why I haven’t updated the blog in a while?

More news…. I finally got a driver’s license. I had been riding my friends motor bike on the main island and thought I better be legal. I was hoping the government would recognized my US license and not make me take a test or anything, but I was wrong. They only made me take the driving test, but they made me take it twice… if you know what I mean. The first time I took the test, I did the first exercise (which was drive the bike in a tight figure eight. You are not supposed to get outside the lines. I wasn’t real good at staying in the lines in coloring either, but I managed to do it. The instructor told me to go park. I thought the test was over and that I had passed. What I didn’t know was that he was watching me park. I forgot to signal. He came over and wrote something on my card. The word was “FAILED.” It made me so angry…. they tricked me. It’s is funny over here… they are very strict on the test, but don’t enforce any of the driving laws on the street. Anyway, I took the test again a week later and got the license, so I am official now.

Fishing trip…. there is a group of “white people” here that seemed to have found us. There are a lot of people that work for NGOs (Non Government Organizations) like UNICEF, Red Cross, and other private companies. We all rented a fishing boat and crew and went on a fishing trip together. It was a lot of fun. There were several girls Kyndal’s age. I think we found a great social outlet. We still have many friends that are locals, but it is good to get a dose of normality every now and then.
