Rainy Season
We are definitely in rainy season. Every week I travel to a nearby resort to teach English to the resort staff. I teach 2 three hour sessions every Tuesday. Every Tuesday morning I check in at the airport at 5:45AM to get on the sea plane that goes to the resort. After a full day of teaching, I spend the night at the resort and take the 5:45AM flight back to my island. Sound like fun? Unfortunately it is not always sunny in paradise. We like to tell people it is because we are in the tourism industry, but the truth is there are two rainy seasons and we are in the one of them. I took this picture of the storm we were flying through as our little plane jumped up and down in the sky.
“The sea was angry that day my friends. Like an old man trying to take back soup at a deli.” Our normal 40 minute flight took over an hour as we circled other resort landing strips as our pilots considered landing and waiting out the storm. We pressed on and arrived safely.
Angie has had a plan to go to the main island to get some much needed groceries and complete a few “big city” tasks. Yesterday the wind was so high that Kyndal could not open the door to the taxi. Needless to say, they went back home and determined grocery shopping could wait for another day. Today, the wind was so high it shredded the cover I had put over my motorcycle and the ferry boat service to the main island was discontinued. Angie said it was a lot like an ice storm in Oklahoma. She could hear her inner weather man saying, “Stay at home today folks. No need to take the risks on the roads (in our case boats)… it's just not safe.”
We will take the wind and turbulent sky and sea with the much appreciated cloud cover and rain. We will try to dodge the dengue mosquitos and endure another rainy season.
