Saving A Life
Our volunteer teacher actually saved a life this week. He was sitting in a restaurant that overlooks the sea having lunch with some students when he saw a young man being taken out by the current. The many was screaming for help. He asked the students at the table, “What is that man screaming?” They said, “He saying, Help Me!” The other guys sitting at the table didn't seem too concerned, but Jean (pronounced like ZJHAWN) felt a responsibility. He put his phone and glasses on the table and dove into the sea after the guy. Jean doesn't claim to be a great swimmer, but the responsibility was too heavy for him. When he reached the guy, their was panic in his eyes. Fortunately, just a few days before, Jean had a conversation with some firemen from one of our English classes and the conversation was about how to rescue someone from drowning. He reached the man and managed to get him to relax as Jean began swimming against the current. It was no use. Jean's energy was spent, the current was too strong, and the waves were too high. Fortunately, Jean is white and drew some attention to the scene. A ferry boat was passing and some people on the boat decided to throw out some life jackets. One was swept away by the current and Jean gave the other one to the victim. With one jacket, the endangered person was buoyant and both were floating out to sea in the current. Suddenly a smaller boat came to rescue the guys. After both were pulled into the boat, the drowning man passed out from shock. They took the guy to the government hospital. The young man was kept for a day and then released alive and well. Jean's a hero. He risked his life to save another. Glad you are here with us Jean. I'm thankful for the responsibility you feel in playing your part on this planet. Keep saving lives ;-)
