Too Much A Walkin

We had a practice run with school today. We did really well. We were up at 6 and at the jetty to take the boat to the main island by 7:10am. There were several boats waiting to take all the people to the capital. Our boat ride took 20 minutes so we found ourselves in the big city by 7:30am. Actually, it is not that big, but I think I am going to start calling it the big city because it is the biggest city in the whole nation.

We knew the school was not going to be open yet so we thought about doing some other errands. We needed new passport photos to attach to the family's immigration applications. We got the photos taken and attached them to the forms, submitted the forms and collected the passports and ID cards. We are all set for another 6 months.

We did make it by the school. We walked through some classrooms, paid the tuition for the first month and awaited our phone call to come collect uniforms. We had just about given up and were ready to head back to our island when we got the call. The kids were so excited to get their school uniforms. (Don't worry, we will post some photos of the first day of school in their new uniforms.) We also had to buy some school shoes for each of them. So the practice run was a complete success. The clothes are laid out, we have met the teachers, travel arrangements have been made, backpacks are packed (accept for lunches)… all that is left is just go. Braden has put on his uniform twice and Kyndal has tested hers out too. Kyndal says, “I'm just so ready to go, Dad.” about 10 times an hour.

So after the uniforms, we finally were on the 3:30pm boat back home. That's a lot of time to walk around in flip-flops. My feet were killing me when we got home. I was hungry too. Angie watched a youtube video on how to make a pizza crust and made us pizza for dinner. Our guests Arey and Nasra joined us for dinner. It was excellent. What a great day and we are expecting a great day of rest tomorrow.

Friday starts the weekend in this country. Friday is the holy day for Muslims. So tomorrow will be a day of rest for us. We have a family tradition of going to the beach on Saturday. We take our large picnic umbrella and set it up on the beach by digging a hole to set the pole so it is sturdy. Angie prepares a picnic lunch and we usually hang out as a family for several hours. It is great fun. However, since tomorrow night, Kyndal is going to her last overnight sleepover before school starts next week, we decided to do our beach and rest day tomorrow. We will meet together as a family in the morning. We sing, read, study and pray together and then head out to the beach. Now you know why tomorrow will be a day of rest… and my feet really need it.
